The Archaeological Museum of Chania is located near the old port of the city and it is housed in the old Venetian monastery of Saint Francis.
The permanent exhibition of the museum comprises items from the Neolithic through the Roman period and collections that include finds from the ancient city of Kydonia, Aptera, Polyrinia, Kissamos, Elyros, Irtakina, Syia and Lissos.
The Archaeological Museum of Chania in Halidon Street has now permanently closed its doors and has a new home in the New Archaeological Museum.
