Voulismeni lake is located at the center of Agios Nikolaos city. Once a sweetwater lake, now the lake connects to the port after the construction of the channel in 1870.
The local legends say the lake is bottomless, however the lake has been measured to 64 m deep. The waters appear black due to the depth of it. It was also said the German army disposed weapons at the bottom of the lake before leaving the area at the end of WW2.
There are numerous restaurants and cafeterias around the lake where you can enjoy a cold freddo cappuccino or a meal with the stunning view of the lake.
Tip: A beautiful panoramic view of the port can be seen when going up the stairs on either side of the lake.
