Kroustas Village

Kroustas (Greek: Κρούστας) is a traditional village in the region of Lasithi in Crete. Located on a hill 520 m above the sea level, it is approximately 15 km or a 25 minute drive far from the center of Agios Nikolaos town, just over the well known Kritsa village.

Another highlight of Kroustas is its rich history and cultural heritage. The village is close to a number of ancient ruins and historic sites that are worth exploring such as the ancient city of Lato, which dates back to the 7th century BC.

Kroustas is also famous for its food and wine. The village is home to several traditional tavernas where visitors can sample local specialties such as skioufihta (a local traditional pasta dish) fava (a type of split pea soup), and kalitsounia (a sweet or savory pastry). In addition, Kroustas is known for its excellent wine, made from local grape varieties such as Liatiko and Mandilari.

One of the most unique features of Kroustas is its traditional way of life. The village has managed to maintain its authentic character and customs, despite the influx of tourists in recent years. Visitors can witness local traditions such as bread-making, cheese-making, and olive oil production, as well as participate in traditional celebrations such as the Feast of St. George, which takes place every year on April 23rd.
