Archaeological Museum of Rethymno

The Archaeological Museum of Rethymno is located in the center of the old town, close to the harbor and all the local points of interest. The museum is currently housed in the Saint Francis church (Agios Fragiskos) which was founded in the 16th century.

Until a few years ago, the museum was housed in the pentagonal building in the Fortezza Fortress, but had to be moved due to constructional improvements of the building.

The museum holds wonderful exhibits from the prefecture of Rethymno that date from the Paleolithic era such the tools from Preveli, to the Venetian period such as the gold coin of Doge Francesco Molin dating back to 1646.

Opening Times: Tuesday – Sunday 10:00 – 18:00

Admission Fee: 2 euro, reduced 1 euro.
