2. Spinalonga Island & Fortress

Spinalonga island stands as one of the most popular historical attractions of Crete mainly due to its sad history. 4. Amazonas Park

Amazonas Park is located 25 Km from Agios Nikolaos and although it might not be close to the city, it is definitely worth the drive. It is an animal park, but also a rescue center for various animals from South America, such as parrots and monkeys and it makes a great place to visit especially for families!

5. Dikteon Andron Cave (Psychro)

Dikteon Andron is one of the two places in Crete which claim the birthplace of the Greek god Zeus! This ancient cave was a shrine in Minoan times and has some very impressive rock formations and would make a lovely daytrip for the family!

8. Agios Panteleimon Beach

It takes its name from the lonely chapel at the beach, Agios Panteleimon is one of the beaches around the Istro area and it is fairly isolated and unspoiled. You will not find many people at the beach, so this would make an ideal quiet and relaxing day out.
