El Greco’s House Museum

El Greco (The Greek) or Dominikos Theotokopoulos as was his real Greek name was a painter, sculptor and architect in the 16th century and is considered one of the most influential figures in Cretan history. El Greco grew up in the village of Fodele in western Heraklion.

The museum is said to be where El Greco lived as a child and opened in 1998 after being restored for many years by the Greek Ministry of Culture. It contains copies of the works of El Greco.

The Historical Museum of Crete which is located in Heraklion contains the only two original works of El Greco, which are currently found in Crete.

Admission Fee: 2 euro, reduced 1 euro.
