Kritsa village (Greek: Κριτσά) is part of the municipality of Agios Nikolaos, around 12 km away from the center of Agios Nikolaos. It is built on a rock hill called Kastellos at an altitude of 375 m and it is one of the oldest villages on the island.
Kritsa is believed to be one of the oldest areas in Crete, as its earliest settlement dates back to the 13th century BC, and during the Middle Ages, it was believed to be the biggest village in Crete.
Nowadays Kritsa is one of the most popular and picturesque villages in Crete accepting many visitors each year, both locals and travelers. When you visit make sure you have enough memory on your camera or phone as it is certain you will take many photos! Don’t forget to visit Panagia Kera Church located just before driving uphill towards Kritsa!
