The Archaeological Site of Palaikastro is situated at the northernmost edge of the eastern coast of Crete around 20 km away from the town of Sitia and not far from the famous Vai Palm Beach.
The area was one of the most important commercial centers of the Minoan culture in the east of the island of Crete and flourished during the Late Minoan period (1550-1220 BC) however there are also preserved remains from the Early and Middle Minoan periods (3000-1550 BC).
