The Shelter of Platanias is located on the west side of Chania, an approximate 10-15 minute walk from the center of Platanias.
The Shelter was initially used to store ammunition and military equipment in World War 2 by the German Forces. It was built underneath a church and a cemetery by Germans using local forced labor.
The total length of the tunnels reaches 150 m. The tunnels have small booths in which items of World War 2 such as weaponry, uniforms are displayed.
The entry is completely free, but donations are accepted to the organization that is maintaining the shelter.
